Are you sure it's the water itself, and not smells coming back up the trap/waste when the water goes down?

Are any sinks etc blocking up?

Fill the sink with the plug in, see if you still have the smell.

Try clearing out the traps if you can. It won't be the water itself. It will be the waste pipes as it definetly sounds like a blockage.

Do you know where your waste pipes are running in the house?

Try filling up a basin or sink and let it empty - do you hear gurgling coming from anywhere else?

If it's not the drains it could be something dead in the tank in the loft (if you have one).

Wouldn't be coming from a tank anyway if you can smell it in the kitchen. Kitchens are mains fed not tank. It will be blocked drains somewhere down the line. Putting water down the drain will stir it up and make your smell it more
