We have been looking at the below item for the missus mum for her Christmas, She's not the very best when it comes to laptops ect so thought this would be ideal for her to read books on and catch up on tv and general internet browsing.. (facebook & ebay)

I would imagine it is utter toss.
You can get a Kindle Fire for £129, which would probably be far superior.

Android and iOS are your only choices, both have Skype apps.
Nexus 7 or iPad Mini, 7 ideally.

Microsoft are working on a HTML5 browser based version of Skype and rumours are there will be an official Skype app after Xmas to coincide with OS10.
But if you're needing Skype now then either a Kindle Fire HD (£160) or a Nexus 7 (£170) are you're best bets.
