I'm picking up my new motor on Saturday, didn't want to post about it till then but

Basically it's on a private plate now and he's keeping it. He needs to send off the V5 to get the new plate number on it. What's the best way to get the car in my name etc but without me feeling like I'm not ever gonna see the V5 again

You could sign a recipet saying he owns the reg. sign v5 and send off as usual. When it comes to you put plate on retention using his money or transfer to his new car. You don't have to wait for the car then. I've done it a few times no problem.

The reg belongs to the car, if he sells the car you buy the reg on the v5.

That's what he's going to do. I don't have a problem as long as I've got a written agreement with everything on. Plus i'll have a copy of the v5

Panic over

Silver and black are quite common so it's either Red, Yellow or White.. Right?
