I came home from Brunei to Fee telling me that none of the rear lights on the RRS were working...

Tested, and it was just the running and brake lights, so both bulbs had gone. Got a new pack from halfords (they no longer have the book to look for yourself so some young chap had to assist me). Replaced them, all worked fine.

Next day i'm getting Transmission Fault warnings, the car stops shifting up gears in Full Auto (Manual and Sport still ok), HDC faults, the Air Suspension lowering, and the brake lights constantly on. The front side lights were also flashing when pressing the brakes

First thoughts through my head were ££$$££

Did a bit of google searching which suggested the brake switch or even the brakes bulbs. Bulbs stood out as they had just been replaced, so nipped to autosave and got the CORRECT bulbs this time (P21 5w). Car now seems fine.

What a fecking joke of a reaction to wrong bulbs

Would it be something to do with Canbus and the different voltages?

Only logical thing I could think of, without knowing to much about car electrics.

Range Rovers are temperamental! I quite often get HDC faults (HDC inactive is its fave at the moment) and also air suspension fault messages flash up on the dash when I turn the ignition on. Turn off and on again, fault message gone!

Interesting reaction to the bulbs though. Are the bulbs you needed as steep as the cost of the xenon headlight bulbs?

Probably hoping people buy the wrong bulbs and can't return them as the packaging is open...

I've only used their book once years ago, which listed the wrong bulb. I now take to bulb out before, and go into The range next door because they are the 1/4 of the price, or a proper motor factors if it isn't a Sunday.

we get these problems all the time at work with canbus signals, wrong wattage bulbs, fuses put in wrong place, through up all kind of weird fault codes. even the most simple of jobs can some times end up reprograming the relevant controller with new canbus codes. technology for you!

I had a mate come up to the workshop with his brake lights stuck on. Although only at night. Intermittent faults, hate that.

Looked at the switch, sound.

Checked the fuses in case one blown was causing another to come on, sound. Checked the loom for shorts, sound. Checked the stuff under the bonnet in case it was some warning for a fault with that, sound.

Wonder if the night time thing is something to do with temperature of the air / car etc. Stumped. About to give up, other mate comes in, asks my mate what he's done this week.

'Changed a bulb the other day'.

Put a single filament in a stop/tail holder. Lights on, voltage to the stop circuit, other side and high level lights up.

Proper bulb, fixed.

My brothers 05 Fiesta goes mental if you put a single filament bulb in the tail/brake holder, basically flashes all lights on in random sequences and just goes a little crazy!
