Before I start I know this is dumb. I went to start my car this morning and as usual it was having none of it. So normally a little blip of the throttle while its turning over works a treat.I know his is not a smart thing to do but it works, only today here was a grinding noise and a big plume of smoke. What have I broken?

Cam belt seems fine. I am having mo much facepalm tight now, supposed to have a meet tomorrow. Only thing I have noticed is there is foam around the oil filler cap. But no oil in the water, so I assume the head gasket is fine
