So I finally lost my (track day) virginity this weekend at keevil airfield for my 25th birthday pressie

I was accompanied by a friend of mine (in a civic type r) and his mate who have been previously of which coached me and gave me useful tips etc...

The weather was perfect for driving... Cold but sunny/cloudy and dry!

It was the last the event at that circuit this year so there was a good turnout! I've never seen such a large amount of middle aged blokes in caterhams!!!

I did expect to see more fast road cars about but tbh the majority of them were stripped and caged track slags which arrived on trailers... Surprisingly I was the only one with a scooby

Anyway enough of me going on... My mate managed to squeeze his phone inside the hole in the bucket seat and recorded me going around... The track is quite punishing on the brakes (braking from 100 4/5 times per lap) and I found that after a few laps my brakes were completely shot (you'll notice I lift off and brake early on every corner because otherwise I just won't stop lol)

Scooby STI @ keevil 01.12.12

Thanks for watching... Now I've got the bug I'll be getting some new brake fluid and pads before I go next year

Thanks
Ash

Can't open video but could just be me, wot brake pads do you have?

Brakes are always something that gets totally hammered on a track day.

Brakes do get hammered.

Pad wise some people rave about DS2500 I've never got on with them. I use CL RC6 pads and they are immense!

I use cl5+'s and rate them highly

Also get decent brake fluid with a decent boil temp.

Done keevil, colerne and Abingdon. All great airfield tracks. And quite hard on the tyres and the brakes.

Nice shopping list there!

Gauges and Suspension next on my list. Pondering whether just to go for some coilovers and setup or go for the whilteline kit whilst I'm at it.

Would expect them to be good really, but will be stopping from some serious speed tho, my vans pads work up to 700 degrees, 750max.

The ones in the link are 500 so it could just be getting them to hot and fading.

Just watched vid, surprised how much the front of car raises under suspension and dips when braking, how still have you got suspension looks pretty soft, ast is ment to be really good suspension tho.

Nice spec on the car,

Yea the front of the car is quite high and the suspension is on a soft setting! Also, I lowered the tyre pressures all round so it felt a bit spongey!
