Been looking at a few 2000ish Audi 1.6's for insurance purposes.
Are mileages a big issue?
Seen one with 95k miles, FSH, 7 months MOT etc.
Should i be expecting costly upkeep?

brother had a 2.0tdi 2004 with around 100k on it
few things started to break but overall it was a great car
fuel cooler mount broke and the egr was dodgy so it was leaking coolant

Dont let it put you off mate, I have just bought an Audi S3 with 62k miles and I have had the following problems with cost of repair....
Rattle in dash- Fixed for free, I found the rattle
DV valve piston failed- £95 fitted but I went for a Forge Motorsport one which was considerable more ha.
Now I have a boot leak but maybe some seal or grommit is weak...
Overall its sound and the point of my post is that they are pretty cheap to repair....
Check out audisport and also AwesomeGTI who are located in Irlam near Manchester

Not costly upkeep, but at 95k i would be looking over the complete suspension with a fine toothed comb the older ones dont seem to be as durable as the later ones with similar mileage
1.6 is a crap engine imo - but most owners dont seem to complain too much about them - they use oil, breather pipes split but thats about it to be fair

Check the rear washer pipe is still connected in the drivers side c pillar - they can come apart when the rear jet blocks with corrosion
never ever changed a boot seal on one

Yeah Matt the rear wiper jet didnt work so I have removed it and its currently on soak in some fairy liquid (Or I will replace it)
I will replace it all on Friday when I am back....the reason I do not think its washer jet is because it doesnt smell of anti freeze? almost like its just water?
Also- while you are here.......Is this any good?
