Anyone done it? And where can I get an official battery from? A lot on eBay say official but I'm dubious

2 screws on bottom (pentalobe)
Take cover off
2 phillips screws holding a clip on left hand side, remove them and take battery out. Battery is stuck down tho so better to warm it up slightly

As Munchie said, carefully prise it out if using a screwdriver as easy to pearce them. Also be careful removing the battery as I've had loads that customers have ripped the battery connector off the board.

My missus replaced the back of her phone (the glass back) with a ebay kit for £5. Don't quote me, but I'm sure once you remove the back the battery will become removable/available.
The back is just held on by 4 very small hex screws, so I can't see why this wouldn't be a DIY job.

well i ordered the battery and went to turn the phone off and it wont
tried cleaning the charging dock and still no joy. even holding home button and standby button wont work. think i have a faulty connector. if i take it to an Apple store (about 2 weeks away from having it a year) will they replace it even though i bought it at CPW?

yeah, when i go to turn it off, it does the turnie wheel thing but then the apple symbol comes on about 1 second later and it comes back on. i can get it to turn off if the charger is plugged in and switched on, but as soon as i turn the power off or unplug from mains it comes back on. Also my phone wont work in the speaker dock when my missus has exact same phone and firmware works which is why i think it may be a short on the dock connector. so i thought i may just be as well to go to apple and get a replacement and save the battery as i should get a new one if i have a new phone

Can't see how a faulty dock connector would make the phone incapable of turning off...
What you're describing sounds like a software issue. Have you tried doing a full restore of the phone?
Also, what are the symptoms that make you want to replace the battery? On a less than 12 month old phone, the battery shouldn't be worn enough to give a noticeably poorer performance. If it does, it'll be a warranty issue too.

No harm in giving the dock connector a clean but doubt it will resolve anything! its an option though hey...

faulty charger dock will cause them to turn back on.
Had it several times on 4S when the old charge dock gets moisture damage/corrosion between all the pins(under the loudspeaker)
Easy and cheap enough to fix

already tried cleaning the dock connector with a dry toothbrush. does seem to be something on the pins which could be corrosion which is probably shorting the pins. haven't had the phone in any water apart from the usual light rain etc but i have a case so hoping they won't weedle out of it.
balling-the battery apparently only lasts 400 charge before it degrades and sometimes i have been charging it twice a day. but now im lucky if it lasts half a day with medium use, unless the dock problem is possibly draining the power faster?
