No reason why not, bit more work but nothing to stop you.
Unless you mean a petrol engine that's already available as standard, in which case but one of those, easier to insure, easier to sell.

Gearbox mounts will be the same as petrol conversion and engine side will go by shell type i guess type 1 or 2 shell?

drivers side engine chassis mount is different on the diesel so a normal conversion mount won't fit.(the chassis mount islower)
you can either make up your own bracket to fit or cut out the diesel mount and weld in a type 1 chassis engine mount

Also the fuel lines and tank will obviously need changed

As Ian said the mount on the chassie for the engine is different. Why not fit a 1.7 TD engine from a Astra. Great little engines.
You can keep the fuel tank and lines, they will need a good clean.
