I've fired over the URL for the lease, I'll let her decide her stance on that.
I found a 1.2 Corsa C SXI. 2006 with 48k miles for £2k. It looks really tidy.
The garage which did her MOT offered her a 1.2 Corsa SXI 2006 with £50k miles for £3500 on their own finance... for reference.

Like fuck would I lease a car like that. A 2k Corsa SXI will still be worth 1.5k when the least on that Shiron C1 tinbox expires, leaving her out of pocket.

you could look at it another way and say that the corsa sxi could cost more than what you've paid on the citroen in repairs in that time.
and you also get to drive around in a brand new car, acting elite.
the new vs 2nd hand car debate never works. theres too many variables.

But you'll have to pay to service it at a main dealer which is loads more than a service on a Corsa C is going to cost.

I wouldn't buy any small hot hatch made in europe tbh, would deffo go for something japanese as they are best at making them

Because people still believe you have to have them serviced at a main dealer to maintain the warrenty. Plus it looks better.

This is why people end up getting fucked over though.
One of our lads here bought a 'free' servicing package from VW and had his mk4 golf serviced last week. They did a brake fluid change by removing the brake hose from the caliper and didn't put it back on tightly so it leaked, took the paint off his wheel and he lost his brakes.
I wouldn't use a dealer for servicing if they paid me, dodgy cunts.

We're looking for something around this budget to replace our Clio, Corsa D will be high mileage for that money.
Best value for money, small cheap car we've come across is a 2007ish Grande Punto, 1.2 or 1.4 with around 40k miles. Can't see you getting a newer/lower mileage car than that for £3k.
I'm just reluctant about it being Fiat (that said I trusted Reanult but had to spend a fortune on this Clio during our ownership).

Do you see a Punto with 40k on it safe?
When will it become bad? 60k 80k, deffo 100k surely by then it will be bottom of anyones list
But yeah, buy something on 40k and it won't break for at least 20k, i really believe that is some peoples mentality.

Experience has shown the lower the mileage the less likely stuff is to break.
Bought our Clio on 30K, had it 3 years and the majority of problems (clutch, waterpump, headgasket) all cropped up in the last 12 months, also the last MOT we had ball joints, track rod ends and ARB bushes, none of which you'd expect to be replacing on a low mileage car.

1.2 Punto is fucking dire, I had one as a hire car for about a month, when I drove it back (after a week of driving my own car again) I had to check 3 or 4 times if the handbrake was still on as it was revving but hardly moving!

Well I sent a few examples of Corsas and Fiestas (good shout on the Fiesta, seem good value for money) and she's gone to look at a Citroen C4 and loves it apparently...
I'm quite relieved she's found a car for herself, means I won't feel guilty if/when the engine falls out of this one
