wasn't sure whether this is an off day or house day problem

the missus' parents bought our living room sofa's for us as a moving in present, 3 years ago. over the time we've had them, we've had a lot of problems. these are:

2 seater:

- headrest back to front, needed a whole new one as the stitching was done incorrectly.
- creaking when sitting on it as they had left out a vital bit of wood as support.

3 seater:

- middle support leg bent, again hadn't been manufactured properly and needed some better fittings.
- stitching coming loose between the arm and cushion.

the last one if the one that's had the most issues as it's required re-stitching 4 times now, and every time they've had to stitch over a larger area.

had the store manager out last night to inspect it and he said it shouldn't have been re-stitched and the whole interior cushion and leather needs changing to sort it. problem is, he said it will take 6-8 weeks and it will look brand new, whereas the rest of the leather looks 'lived in'.

the other option is for an exchange, but as they don't sell this style of sofa anymore (I WONDER WHY?) we will have to get credit for both sofa's. this is fine, but they will charge us for 'wear and tear', which he said is £36 a month, although he may be able to negotiate that down.

would you let them fix it or argue that an exchange is needed as it's not fit for purpose?

the stitching actually came loose more than a year back, so if we do get charged wear and tear, i'd hope they only charge it up to the date the complaint was logged.

we don't jump on the sofa or treat it badly, it's just a faulty product.

Its 3years old. If you get them on finance isnt that the term? So after 3years you go out get a new one etc.

Take the money and go get a new one.

Edit: Mines from DFS corner sofa. 3.5k and after 3years we will look at replacing it.

They are fixing it though not like they are saying tough shit they are giving you options. If it was a car and you had issues you wouldn't expect to give it back after 3 years without being penalized

true. but the guy that came out said they have made the problem worse by re-stitching it over and over.

id be asking why they want £36 a month for wear and tear, its a faulty item, they cant resell it. start kicking up more of a fuss, threaten court, trading standards, watchdog, etc. wont take long for them to back down

id actually consider contacting trading standards tbh, they want you to pay 2 thirds of the value for something they accept has never been right, so they can sell it on again at profit?

I always thought DFS was one of them companies where as mentioned above you just got another after the finance term as they are cheap to start and not great quality. That said should atleast last the length of the finance

just had the guy phone up and he said he wasn't happy with charging us for wear and tear due to the problems we've had with the suite, so he's giving us the full amount back to spend on another suite in his store

People try that the trading standards card in my shop from time to time, no one has ever gone through with it yet.

Probably because its not my fault if they crash their helicopter.
