I had the middle box replaced with a stainless pipe yesterday and thought id share the results.
Apparently it does get less tinny when it cokes up a bit. It sounds the same as before at normal speeds so its still civilised around town.

Its not as bad as the standard flatspot just a slight hesitation.
It was mapped with the box in so now the car has a different set up to the map thus the flat spot when cold.

Just bought a 197 myself and was wondering if doing this would sound good. Sounds raspy as you say, you should get another vid in a few weeks

I did it on my old one, flat spot was that bad it completely ruined the car! Put a full TDF system and sport cat on in the end which was the proper way to do it, car was spot on again.

Just looking at these now, what are they like? I'm torn between these and the megane, can't decide! I've had a 172 are these much of an improvement?

Im not saying its not mapped... But u say it was mapped with the center silencer on. Removing the silencer will have no effect on ecu map. There is nothing you could tweek on the map to make it perform better without the silencer compared to with.

Your right it will have no effect on the map itself im not saying that.
However these cars are known for gaining flat spots when removing boxes and cats.
Ordinarily I would get a massive flat spot by removing the middle box but as its already been mapped to reduce the original one I only suffer from the new flat spot when cold.

Its just a stainless section off ebay 63.5mm pipe 500mm long sleeves the standard system perfectly.

I had it done at Elite Remaps in Leeds. I got about 5bhp so nothing major but its better to drive I think and seems to pull harder but it might just be a placebo effect.

Also people who have driven a Meg and 197 say the clio is more fu and more involved I cant really comment as I haven't driven a Meg.

I dont doubt a mapped Meg will piss all over mine for straight line speed though.

A tuned meg will be far faster . .my brothers is prob 230-240bhp and it feels way faster than my clio 197 cos of having the turbo, but on the road they are quite close but megane is quicker ad always has power where as the clio u need to keep revs high. . .i find the clio is more chuck able into corners tho with it being the smaller car.

At k tec I got bout an extra 8 or 9 hp after he map, I have de cat and miltec system. And a filter. . . Nothing to drastic.
