So basically if your boiler is old & crap you can have it replaced for pretty much what you're paying now. I see the only catch being that the companies listed could potentially charge you more than usual for the work & equipment?

Anyone replaced their boiler via this scheme? There was a cash back deal too but I think that has ended

The loan is tied to your house. Would be better of sticking it on an interest free credit card imo. A standard boiler will cost about a couple of grand fitted, a lot less if you can do any yourself/know people.

For a combi boiler a friend quoted me ~£1200

Doesn't seem too bad but I'm sure this green deal would end up in excess of £2000

With interest rate set as high as it is, and the fact you'd have to get a big company like B&Q to installs it, the current recommendation is don't touch.

A mate of mine is a plumber and he's signed up for this scheme thats starting in 2014 to be an installer where the government will replace a boiler for nothing, its like the cavity insulation scheme, you will pay like a 150 quid.

Is that actually a thing? Because I've just spent a day walking round the ecobuild exhibition and in summary there is no money for the government to subsidise schemes any more.

Surprising if true

I was just going say, how is this a 'deal' - it's not any different to getting a loan or paying on credit card etc.?

the green deal is a loan of sorts, its tied to your property and is paid back through your electricity bill

For example you pay £70 a month for gas, you change to a condensing A rated combi and you use less gas.

you continue to pay your high gas bill and they will calculate how much you are saving, they take their payment + around 10% from your saving

so in short, you use less gas but pay the same as you were

You will be charged a fortune for it though. British Gas, Mark Group and B&Q are the kind of companies carrying out the work. Ive heard in excess of 2.5k for a combi swap with is fucking ludicras

Looks like another money wasting scheme from the Government.

From what I have read its just a government funded loan scheme where you pay back the loan via your energy bill.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2013/jan/26/green-deal-not-great-deal

Its not any a grant of any kind from what I have seen

But at the same time an eco based exhibtion will all be about renewable energy and its hardly going to promote change towards their services if every tom dick and harry found out there are boilers being replaced for pocket change.

If you'd been you'd know its as much about improving boilers as it is solar panels.

If there was a scheme where you could replace an inefficient old boiler for a new condensing one and only pay £150, I'm pretty sure someone would have mentioned it.....
