Just watched the latest Fifth Gear I had recorded on my Sky box, and they did a little feature on servicing your car. He took a car to a "DIY Garage" and claimed they were popping up all over the place.

He paid £45 to rent 2-post ramp thingy and all the tools he needed to do.

Do these places actually exist?! I'm starting to get a decent tool collection but a place to work I do not have. My "drive" is actually a parking space, and although I can get an extension lead to it for power tools - it's sloped so no good for axle stands and sucks at this time of year to not have the option of being under a roof.

I can't help thinking the insurance implications are massive to have people lifting their own cars around, workshops can be dangerous places I imagine.

http://www.rampandwrench.co.uk/main/

It's no where near me but is £15 an hour for the ramp and £7.50 for tools.

I would use it if it was local!

After reading down the comments they are the company from 5th gear also

I remember hearing about this somewhere before actually. Like you said, could be some serious damage if things went wrong

Looks amazing to be honest. Especially the bit about trained mechanics rescuing you from a disaster job

Done a quick google, doesn't seem to be anything near me

Found two that existed in West Yorkshire at somepoint on old forum threads, both seem to have closed down.

Really good idea, hope it takes off.

It thought about this years ago, but never thought it would be financially viable due to the health and safety implications of joe public spanner wielding with a 2tonne car on a ramp.

Insurance must be enormous.
