Why not just get hubcentric wheel spacers?

Hub centric spacers cause wheel bearing problems.
Axle spacers aren't anything fancy, but, you'd want them machined properly not just made from some steel plates, a drill and a grinder, IMO.

not had a problem with my wheel bearings. yet another internet horror story, i think.

Depends on the width Ben. You are better spacing from behind than in front, that's why Ford did it.

Yer would have them made up properly if I couldn't buy any just easier to buy some done lol
And not all Internet hearsay wheel spacers are gd but looking for 50mm spacing so quite a lot of load for bearings as robin said
