I need a simple logo that will work well in black and white.

I want something like this old TB turbos logo, its a bit small on the pic but its, horizontal lines with MK in the middle, I just need to know how to do it in photoshop

Use shape tool to make the background and place text in the middle.

Photoshop isn't really the right tool for the job, though.
For logo design you should use Illustrator as your work will then be vector, ie resizable without loss of quality.

Vector images btw.. dont distort when you zoom in and out.. They are very very crisp. Unlike jog images which distort and go pixely when zoomed in.
