Ok so my lock/power button gave up the ghost last week...the 'click' completely went away and it stopped working what so ever. Ordered the part i thought it was lock button/light sensor/proximity sensor ribbon from ebay and fitted it as per Ifixit guide yesterday with all the correct tools. All placed back together fine except the lock button still doesn't work - its got its 'click' back but no function. The light sensor and everything else works...does this rule out a faulty part received and iv still got another problem somewhere?
Bit stuck - any pointers?

Power button is on a ribbon is it not?
Might be that the ribbon is not inserted into the gate properly.
Are you unlocking the phone using the home button then and are you also turning the phone on by connecting it to a PC?

Not what you're asking for but a solution until you fix it if you didn't already know.

As said, prox sensor is on the same ribbon, if that's working then the connection to the logic board is fine, if it's clicking then the connection is being made, sounds like a dodgy ribbon to me...

They're a bit of a ballache to do, I've fixed them before by either cleaning the crap from round the base of the button when it's out or by putting another tiny spacer (like whats already under the button) between the button and the flex cable.
