After seeing the front on pics it looks great with the bonnet vent silver, it matches the stripe on the bonnet. I enjoy reading threads like this as they're simple but to the point! Keep it up mate.

Hiya, you ok?

My optimum bypass valve arrived today, the job of this is to control the boost levels so when your foot is off the throttle boost is vented so the car is basically driving like a n/a, all about fuel efficiency blah blah.

Anyway the problem with the stock one is firstly, its not adjusted very well, the butterfly doesn't close fully allowing pressure to escape even when fully closed, secondly for a car running more pressure, eg because of the smaller pully, the spring is too weak causing it to close too slowly or not enough. This also leads to a yoyo effect when driving part throttle.

Heres the new valve

Got to work, inctercooler back off

not too long after that the engine bay resembled a mess

Old valve attached to supercharger air horn

Here highlights the adjustment issues with the stock valve, you can see light through the edges

New valve closes fully

Fitted back to air horn

and reassembled everything. Took for a drive and it drives perfect now, no yoyo, and seems to pull nicer too.

To be honest I could have adjusted the old valve to shut fully, however I thought I may aswell just get the new already adjusted one, and it came with a better spring so why not as the price isn't extortionate

I like reading your thread, but I have to keep zooming out loads to look at your pics without going into the next room.

I definitely need to get saving for some parts for mine, Intercooler, brakes all round, service, bypass valve, 4-2-1 manifold and bypass valve aren't cheap!

Any reason you didn't go for the 17% pulley seen as you got the Intercooler as well?

How did it feel to drive before you replaced the bypass valve?

They seem to be a common problem, but I wouldn't have a clue how to decide if mine needs replacing or not.

That and its worth replacing anyway because they ALL are not adjusted fully closed from the factory so you will be losing boost on wide open throttle.

You can just whip it off and adjust it yourself by turning the screw til its fully closed if you don't feel like spending money.

I have some updates. I messaged Dave F on the mini torque forum, but the fucking imbecile never replied, not sure who he thinks he is but I imagine because hes made a few air filters for a few people now thinks hes better than the internet.

Not to worry il make my own. Sorry this isn't as good as a Jed D type intake but you cant have everything.

Started out with a few bits and pieces, some of it I never used. That's a k and n X stream filter

A powerful ECU removed

from a powerful engine bay

Cut the drain pipe to correct angle and attached with some sikkaflex

Drilled a 2 inch hole in the other end of the airbox for the flexi adapter to fit

Then drilled a 2.5 inch hole in the bulkhead lining

For the other end of the flexi to fit (detached from airbox here)

The purpose of this is to allow more airflow into the airbox and drawing it right from under the vents below the windscreen

Made is extra strong with some fibreglass, will probably paint this black at some point but ran out of time

lol

Filter on

Then cut the seal off the paper filter and silconed it in place to create a seal

Need to let that sealant dry and fit tomorrow AM

Looks like it should work well! How much have the parts cost you in total?

Dave usually has a thread up when he's making new batches of the airboxes. Looks like the last ones he did was in Feb! No doubt this will work just as well, should make the supercharger scream even more!

£70 isn't bad, a friend of mine just won a DaveF on eBay for £140, he was going to have a bash at DIY though, he also tried to buy one from the man himself but had no response.
