So it's come the time that we are able to re-mortgage and get out of our fixed rate deal of 6.99%

We've just changed banks to 1st Direct and at the moment are offering a deal of a fee free mortgage with a rate of 4.19%.

Ideally we need to avoid any extra fees so I think this is a pretty decent way for us to go.

Just i'm not quite sure how to go about it? We've been accepted so far, just need to get the house valued by them for the mortgage to go ahead...

Do I instruct any solicitors? And do I need to go with the ones we bought the house with?

You need to instruct solicitors. Did the mortgage company not ask for details of the solicitors when you applied for the mortgage?

You don't have to use the same ones that you used before either. I used different ones for my remortgage than the ones I used for the original purchase.

Ring FD, they'll tell you what you need to do and in which order.

FD will use a chosen solicitor, who will arrange a valuer etc.

Not like buying a house, just sit back and let it happen.
