56 Plate Megane estate 1.5dci in silver. High miles (130k) but considering the condition of the car inside and out I think its been sat on the motorway for most of its life. I think I paid a fair price, £1650 for the car (reserve was £1800), £1881 after adding buying fees. Felt smooth on the ride home (40 miles), no worrying clunks or noises to speak of, starts first time on the button. Hardly sets the road on fire but its for carting about the missus' linen covers for her business, the dog and his crate and all the baby stuff once it arrives!
Reason for purchase, I needed/wanted an estate, I went to an auction, I put my hand in the air, I won an auction  I was going to go for an 08 Mondeo but it sounded a bit rough on idle and eventually went for £3800 so was a bit out of my budget, especially with what sounded like some running issues.
Hasn't come with much of a service history, so I'm thinking cam belt and pump will at least need to be looked at by my mechanic to see if its been done recently (think its 60k / 5 years), can belts be reliably inspected? (I have had a cam chain for the last 5 years so unsure what's involved).
Front windows appear dead but backs are fine so need to look at the fuse, failing that I think water ingress rots the connections in the door (google search), but there is a guy on ebay who sells waterproofed upgraded units for £20 so hopefully that will be a cheap fix.
Will also need to get the oil and filter done to make sure that's sorted. MOT is due in Nov so that will pick anything else up should think. Is there anything else I should be thinking about?

Sounds like a bargain even if the miles are a bit high

Yeh can be done. Just take the cover off and look at the general condition. Not a fail safe method but its a good indication.

Window regulators are a common megane fail. About £230 +vat from Renault.
Decent cars/engines though. Cheap tax iirc. Mileage is just a number.

Well from what I've read online usually it's just where water gets in and corrodes the connectors, sometimes WD40 and a quick clean is all it needs to get it working again, sometimes just you just need to replace that little bit. I've replaced window parts before on a corsa but it was a windy window, never done electric ones before, but door cards never seem to go back on the way they came off which is my biggest concern!
Tax is £105 for the year, I thought it would be closer to £30, seems thats just on the Clio's (same engine though?)

Regulators are available from factors for about £90 each if not cheaper

me and the missus have one of these in black although ours is a hatch 
the chap we bought it from said the same thing about the regulators, he was a renault specialist and knew them really well. On his own megane he had fitted a small piece of metal over the regulator for the window so the water doesn't drip down onto it
Tax on ours is £30, its an 04 plate and a hatch though, looking on parkers it seems that the DCi estate is in tax bracket D instead of C. Depends on which variation of the engine i suppose, you may have one of the 100bhp models

There's a nice Clio DCi in a local garage to my work which I was tempted to chop the Fiesta in for to get cheaper running costs as my tax is about £170 for 12 months and I do £150 month in fuel.
But then I got scared because it's French

Andy I found a video on youtube showing how to remove just the top half of the door card, level off handle, undo 2 screws, lever the tray in the door out then it just flips up or down apparently...
edit - and is £255 good for cambelt, water pump, pulleys, tensioners, aux belt? Gates parts
