does it fail straight away when going to a webpage or does it try and load for a few seconds first. Stupid too but check date and time are correct

Under the wireless network settings, what IP address does it give you for the gateway/router?
And is it set to get an address via DHCP?

Does it work on other wireless networks? Have you tried connecting it via Ethernet?

Try connecting manually using the SSID and your password after 'forgetting' the network. That worked when I had issues with my MBA.

yep via DHCP

its worked with other wireless netwroks yes, up until a few days ago

just realised that using the new IP above, it goes into the router options etc.! so it does work and is connected, but maybe i have to change one of the BT options to allow it to work?!

So you're having this issue on all wireless networks?

If you point your browser to http://74.125.224.72/ (Google), does it load?

Have you tried manually changing DNS servers (guide - HERE) to Google's DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) - make any difference?

Edit - also try a wire connection to the router via Ethernet, just to rule out hardware failure (unlikely as you're connecting to the routers admin pages).

no just this wireless netwoirk. worked fine on all others previously and no others to connect to now. we dont have amn ethernet cable in the house

but the PS3, 2 iPhones and iPad are currently connected by wifi

will try the other bits in a sec

ARGH

so clicking that google link to me to a lets get started bt page, that my flatmate said he got on all his devices.

i had to run through a set up for parentla controls which hung so i clicked back and then the google page laoded and works for any search but no other sites work :/

Just as well really, cos the Macbook Air isn't thick enough to house an ethernet port!

Sounds like DNS is screwed up somewhere along the line. I would do the following:

1. Turn off Wi-Fi on all your Wi-Fi enabled devices, including the Macbook.
2. Remove all your preferred networks from System Preferences > Network -> Advanced (or click on the WiFi icon in the bar at the top and select 'Open Network Preferences')
2. Shut down the Macbook.
3. Turn off your router (both the home hub and the white box if you have the earlier Infinity kit - the latest home hub has the modem built in)
4. Wait for 30 seconds.
5. Power up the white box and wait for that to look like it's connected if applicable. Turn the home hub back on, wait for the lights to turn the appropriate colour.
6. Power up the Macbook.
7. Turn on Wi-Fi, attempt to connect, enter password.
8. Test connection.
9. Turn Wi-Fi back on all your other devices one at a time.

Just do a factory reset on the HH4. They sometimes go spazzy after firmware rollouts.

It will use TR-069 and connect to an ACS server to reconfig after the reset.

Of course not however if he want's the HH4 to work as intended then it's the easiest option - assuming it's the HH4 at fault and not the Macbook.
