You'll always wish you bought the 150 cdti instead.

Z18XER in the Astra. 140bhp.

Will be ok if you don't want to go anywhere quick, or if you don't mind crap MPG.

Misses has an 06 plate Astra G. Hers is the 1.4 Twinport.

Just hit 93k and has never needed a thing apart from the expected such as brakes, oil, tyres, cambelt.

Get a 1.9 cdti 150. Good mpg and goes well when you want it to.

Thought i had a problem as thats all i get with stop start traffic. Going to get the swirl flaps either repaired or replaced as mine smokes a tiny bit while booting it. Will improve mpg loads. Still better than my corsa in everyway.

People will warn you off the diesels because of reliability. Its like any car you get good ones and bad ones. Common things are the dual mass fly wheels, swirl flaps in the inlet, and egr valves clogging up. Also the m32 6 speed can be costly if it goes wrong. Just test drive a few and find a good one to start with and your laughing. If you have 4k to play with you will get a decent one for that. I paid 3.5k for mine on 84k and not a problem with it. Get yourslef on astra owners network and do some reading about them.

What about the SRi Turbo petrol?? Will easily get 1 under budget, and if you go for the 5 door, you get them in 200bhp flavour (over the 3 door 170bhp).

A '55 plate will have the 1.8 Twinport 125bhp engine. the VVT 140 engine was introduced in 2007.

They will smoke a bit being a diesel. A decent blast down the motorway once in a while will clear it out.

Mrs had one from new, biggest mistake ever.

Was shite on fuel, not fast at all and not particularly nice to drive either.

If you must get one, get a diesel.

Don't get the 1.7 either. It's slower than a Milkfloat.
