Never done anything like this before, none of those supercar days or whatever - just had a load of really mixed reviews in my head.

Missus bought me a half-day rally experience, she bought me it for my Birthday shortly after I got the Scooby (about a year ago ) and only just got round to claiming it.

Really wish I did it sooner, I was thoroughly impressed at the stage, cars and instructors - they encouraged you to push it once they gauged you weren't going to panic whenever the car broke traction and they weren't too intrusive on the brake pedal they had in their footwell.

No decent pics/vids of me actually driving or anything, but a few to set the scene:

Some of the cars:

Was about 8 of them in total I think, 4 Evo's and 4 Impreza's - plus a couple of Ford Ka's that the juniors were using on another "stage". The Evo's from what I could tell were 4's and possibly a 6 or 7... but if they were anything like the Impreza's they would have been proper Frankensteins

One of the Impreza's was a bugeye with a blobeye front end and hawkeye engine, "mine" was a blobeye STI with a 5speed out of a WRX and they all had WRX brakes presumably to fit under the wee-wheels.

Engine spec seemed standard on all the cars (they quoted 280bhp) and the cars just had beefed up standard looking struts.

If my engine bay ever looked like this, I'd cry:

If John's ever looked like this, he'd be chuffed to bits:

Didn't think much to the interior, was a bit clunky and rattly tbh

My chariot for the day:

Some dude binned this Evo on his first run, doesn't look much in the pic - but it was pretty fucked, front wing and mirror were knackered and they were muttering about the suspension being broken too:

I'd highly recommend it to anybody considering it, the company was http://www.extreme-rally.co.uk/ and from what I can gather they travel to a few sites across the country, mine being at Tong near Bradford. Proper authentic stage though, not just an airfield covered in mud.

I reckon I'll be back for a full day at somepoint, my confidence was pretty high on the last run and felt myself getting quicker and quicker... which probably means I'll be getting winched out of a ditch in the afternoon of a full day

There were a couple of lads there who actually do a bit of rallying properly, and they said these events were brilliant - even considering their "real" exposure. They did a full day, so morning in Impreza's and afternoon in the Evo's.

Looks alright, do you know which one you had? i.e how much was it?

They do one up the road from me, and I wanted the missus to do one, to built up her confidence. But she wasn't interested.

I think mine was about £150 - not sure on the package name though. The lads on a full day had paid £300 I think.

I did a similar experience day in a Mk 2 escort with Higgins rally school. Can honestly say it was the coolest thing I've ever done on 4 wheels. The way the cars are built with the intercom and what not makes it feel like a proper rally run. That and the moment where you come out of the forest onto an open welsh hillside is pure Rally GB. Couldn't reccomend it enough to any rally fan/petrol head.

Yeah the intercom setup was excellent, guy was just sat there calm telling me what was coming up next, whether I should go faster/slower on entry - but on exit it was all up to me and my confidence. Had some cracking slides*, the car was so predictable and as it was all loose gravel - all done at civilised speeds too.

*Probably looked like a total non-event "twitch" from the outside
