I suppose i'm a little bitter as I now need to cough up for a new tyre, after buying a pair 2 weeks or so ago (Not a cheap size). The missus set off to do a spot of babysitting earlier on, I got the dreaded bad car news call about 5 minutes after she had left.

It turns out she had clipped one of those traffic calming islands they have put in round here and put the sidewall through on the tyre.

Now, I know she doesn't drive quick. She literally has gone and clipped he edge of the island. I went back to look at the kerb and the edge on the corner has gone off it - Leaving it all jagged. I wouldn't usually expect this sort of impact to tear the sidewall like it has.

Can I do the whole taking pictures thing and ask the council to pay for the new tyre? Or will they tell me to poke it?

Honestly I doubt it. Kerbs aren't designed to be hit lol.

I can't believe you've even asked this fair enough the kerb is fucked, but so are 50% of kerbs, hence why people don't intentionally drive into them.

Take this one on the chin and tell your missus to take more care in future.

You'd probably find the kerb is 'out of spec' technically speaking, the same way a road is out of spec when there's a pothole on it. I personally wouldn't be arsed but if you can be fucked getting a letter sent off I don't see that you've got anything to lose

does nobody take responsibility for their own mistakes anymore?

Take it to the council, if they've any sense they'll try to charge you for the cost of repairing the kerb.
