First out this year on the bike today, bought it last December and rebuilt the top end and fitted loads of new parts replacing old.
First time at this track - The Ranch in Stanford.
The track was awful, heavy clay clinging to the wheels and every other part of the bike, managed 2 laps! Which was also 1 lap more than all the others managed today!
Bike ran like a dream, the rebuild has properly freshened it up and it's insane when the power valve opens up! Did more runs up the 1/2 mile track running to the circuit than on the circuit.
Did have an off though, ended up hanging off a corrugated tunnel roof after I overshot a corner by the front wheel! I came off and my mate didn't see me and lost his bike as he was braking to avoid me. I've shafted my plastic radiator cover, no dramas. He bust his front brake lever.
Last open day of the season at that track, got a free voucher for a day next year though as we have it our best.

That must of been awful in a 2 stroke. Yz125?
Must of been dropping into the corners.
Haven't used my bike in around 7 months. And won't be for another 6 due to shoulder dislocation.

It was a struggle yeah, rear was just spinning as it was so heavily clogged, had to push it up the tabletop!

The power valve is on the front of the cylinder barrel, it's operated by a small linkage that opens it when you hit a certain rev range and Christ you can tell when it's open!!

Once you got to a certain rpm on my old TM 250 it was like a whole different bike. It just took off once you hit that power band.
Miss my old bike and keep saying I'll get another but the mrs thinks I will kill myself
Not into all this 4 stroke though, much prefer the power and noise from a 2 stroke.

There's nothing like a 2 stroke power delivery! Hard and up high!

Mine was an 2002 but was used in some championships so had uprated suspension and bits and bobs. Used to destroy spark plugs. Had to be ridden hard all the time or the would get fucked too. Not the most common of bikes but seemed a hell of alot faster than my mates 400

Do you do your own work on the yzf? I'm put off 4 strokes for the fact they aren't as simple to maintain as the 2 strokes, all the shimming and stuff on the top ends.

There's very little power and torque difference actually between the yz125 2 stroke and the yz250f 4 stroke of the same year (2003 for example).
But then if you were going 4 stroke, you'd probably be looking at 400cc and above.

I change the oil every 3 , filter/clean pick up every 6 rides
And I check clearances myself but get my mate to do the work
The thing with 4stroke v 2 is that yes it's dearer to rebuild etc.. But it lasts longer (In most cases)
