I stayed away from facebook for years, one night I was with family/friends I realised I might be missing out.
Got myself an account and then quickly stopped using it the second day I caught myself actually checking if anyone had posted anything. Certainly wouldn't dream of posting my life story on it..
My original post there was a true story though?

Whilst I can relate and agree with much written in the OP, people have been chatting shit and pretending to be something they are not LONG before Facebook was created and in real life there is no "unfriend/hide" option if you get stuck talking to some mouth breathing benefits claimant you used to to school with.
So in short, life is short, if Facebook bothers you enough to go on the Internet and bitch and moan then that is an equal waste of time and effort. It's not mandatory nor is it weird/cool/amazing if you don't have Facebook (as much as this will annoy the Internet Hipsters)
Don't like it, don't use it.

Although that's a rare thing. Most people just want to share those picture quote things. Fun correcting people who haven't verified their sources though.
Most fun I had recently was that union march thing, photo of loads of people with captions saying how boss it went, when actually no one checked the photo and it was from years ago.

I'm more of an occasional user these days, is still a great tool for making arrangements with a group of people though.
Only thing that bugs me is that someone will be talking about a topic or a situation I know nothing about and will just assume I read about it on there
