Hello all I have Just bought a Corsa C SXi and it comes with 15" Alloys, and I think the tire size is 195/55/15??

I am thinking about upgrading to 17" alloys with 205/40/17.

Comparison between 15" and 17" in mm is

15" - Rolling Radius - 297.75 - Circumference - 1870.82
17" - Rolling Radius - 297.9 - Circumference - 1871.76

Difference is - 0.94 or 0.05% in circumference and When speedo reads 70mph I will really be traveling 70.04.

Right anyways time for the questions.
First question looking at the information above if I upgrade to 17" will they scrub the arches as they a a little bit bigger, but looking at the numbers above this is hardly even noticeable.??
And what effect will it have on my driving??, Ie handleing, exceleration, etc...

The main reason I ask is that Halfords is having a sale on 17" and I am going down there on Saturday but dont want to buy alloys that are going to effect the car to much and definatly dont want to buy alloys that will scrub the arches.

Thanks for your help

The only other option is to get 17" alloys with 195/40/17 tires then the 17" info would be:

17" - Rolling Radius - 293.9 - circumference - 1846.63

Difference with 17" and these tires from 15s would be:

-24.19 or -1.29 in circumference and when the speedo reads 70mph I will be actually traveling at 69.1mph.

So what should I do upgrade to 17s with 205s and risk scrubing or upgrad to 195 and lose a little in overale size and have the speedo out abit more.

If it meens anything Halfords say to get the 205's as they are sure they wont scrub, but I just wanted to ask the real experts

just make sure you get an acceptable offset (et42-49 on corsa c's) and you will have no rubbing probs on a 205 tyre

also, there is so little difference in speedo reading that it aint wort worrying about

your allowed 7% anyhow with speed cops

Gambit thank for the help mate...... was begining to think I wouldn't be able to get 17s for a while.

So I can now buy 17s with 205/40/17 tires and your sure theres o chance of then scrubing the arches or even catching on full lock??

Will this effect the exceleration etc...?

What Et are most alloys, or is there not a most common??

ive got a 1.8SRi and put 17x7's et42 with 205/40/17's and havent scrubbed at all even at full lock and full load. Thats with the SRi suspension which is supposedly lower that standard.

dont worry about the calc's, its so little it wont matter

acceleration will be effected though, due to the increased effort required to turn the heavier wheel

i.e. it will accelerate less than with the 15's

But how bad is the acceleration effected??, they are going on a Corsa 1.2 16V SXi so obviously the car isn't the powerfull.

They look VERY similar to the Team Dynamics RVR2, or even the RVO (but with fake screws) - £579 from PVD with tyres (17's).

For £579 they'd be performance budget tyres - Kumho or GT. Nothing special, but they're rated and decent for the price (I think the GT Champiro is the same tread as a Falken )

Could prob upgrade to a branded tyre like a Yoko 539 or Goodyear for a bit more - best call in the morning - 01604 79 79 60
