My faithful sony ericsson xperia arc died today after an engine decided to be lowered onto it. I'm not able to claim to get it fixed as the missus had 2 claims and it hasn't been a year since those, unfortunately.

Currently on giffgaff but will most likely go onto a pay monthly deal with vodafone, as every other network has rubbish signal where I live.

what phones are similar to my xperia arc? Not looking for masses of different stuff on the phone, just android, decent camera and good size screen (4'' min). Good internal storage is a bonus as I always had issues with low memory.

While not the best or most advanced phone out, it's certainly the best phone at the price.

While branded as a Google Nexus, the phone is made by LG, so it's not some no-name brand.

I had a play with one over christmas and was pretty impressed with it.
This and the Xperia Z1 are probably the two plastic phones I've held, that have felt the most solid and well built.

I really like the HTC One as well. The only current Android phone I've seen, that has a proper premium feel to it.

Been having a browse and narrowed it down to 3 phones, the sony xperia Z1, galaxy S4 and Nexus 5.

z1 seems like an upgrade of my old phone, which makes it ideal. Quite weighty at 170g.

s4 looks great but it's quite old now. Older processor compared to the other 2.

nexus 5 looks ok, but there are quite a few complaints of rubbish battery life.

anyone able to confirm that?

HTC One or Z1 or wait for the Z1 compact if you want something a bit smaller with impressive specs.

Really stuck between the s4 and z1

s4 gets 6gb internet whereas z1 gets 2gb for the same amount. Z1 looks to be a better spec though.

My Nexus 5 battery is rarely under half way when I stick it on charge overnight.

I have no mates and don't speak to anyone though. Gets used for quite a bit of browsing in the evenings.

If you liked your old Xperia, stick with Sony and get a Z1. No-one needs 6gb of mobile interwebs.

The Z1 I'm sure you know is waterproof - so if you drop it down the bog like Andrew you should be OK!

I'm also loving the glass front and back on the Z1 vs the bit-too-plasticky S4. That said, I'm not a massive Android/Google fan as I may have mentioned before on this site.

I love my Z1. The size of it felt a bit strange after upgrading from a iPhone 4s but I wouldnt go back to anything with a smaller screen.

Its completely waterproof but it took me a few weeks before I plucked up the courage to put it anywhere near water Its an awesome feature though and you can use the camera while submerged which can make for some interesting photos

Its done. First time in years that I've been on a contract more than 20 quid a month

Think I get 7 days to change my mind anyway, so not too bad.

Which deal did you go for?

I got mine through phones4u and got a pretty nifty bluetooth speaker with it. It kicks out some punch for its size!

I went for unlimited minutes and texts, 2gb internet on Vodafone for £34 a month. Also got £30 cashback through Quidco.

the speaker was only included on a £38 contract

I used a website called mobilephonesdirect.co.uk seems legit, hopefully

Finally got the sony xperia z1 today.

had a quick play and at first I found the layout confusing, but soon picked everything up.

It appears to be very well made. Much better than my xperia arc which was plastic fantastic.

camera is amazing. Iightyears ahead of the arc's 12mp camera.

It is rather large, which will definitely take some getting used to. Arc was the perfect size (could hold and use the phone with 1 hand, z1 needs 2 hands to reach every part of the screen.

s4 would've been the same though. A mate of mine in work has one and thats also rather large.

Z1 Compact would have been the only sensible choice if you wanted something smaller, as it's near enough the same as the Z1 just smaller screen; unlike the usual 'mini' variaty of phones which are often stripped versions of the full-featured phone.

Z1's are awesome phones though

If I hadn't just received a new phone, the Z1 Compact would seriously tempt me.

Perfect size and great spec.

That was my worry with the z1 compact. Like the galaxy s* mini's.

Will just take some time getting used to the extra length. Kind of like having a penis extension I guess.
