A friend of mine is looking at astra vxrs and one local has popped up great price, excellent condition with good mileage. We are going to go and view it on wednesday so was just wondering what to look out for. Heard the gearboxes are a bit chocolatey?

watch the gear sitck when you move off in first and when on and off throttle in all gears, if the stick moves it will need a gear box otherwise fairly reliable watch for oil leaks and any sighns of a exhaust blow from manifold area, early ones like to crack

Gear stick on mine does that and has done since I bought it on 18k, now on 45 ish.

But yeah, worth a check.

Other issue across Astra H is the CIM, turn the lights on and check the horn sounds. There was a recall to replace it if it doesn't. You'll also lose the dial buttons on the steering wheel if its faulty. Headlights must be on.

Ok guys cheers! So all in all no Major horrible things to look out for! Everything's fairly simple and cheapish! It looks like a fantastic example, been garaged and looks flawless in pictures so hopefully it's a genuine well looked after one!

Also I had oxidisation on a couple of the relay contacts in the rear fuse box because the boot leaked although that's a convertible, the hatches may be OK.
