Looking at giving a DA polisher a go this year instead of by hand so looking for some advice on what polish to use that is easy to work with and gets good results.
What would you recommend?

Very vague with the 3M polish. They do a fair few and all for different things.
Look on detailing world. Depends what you want the polish to do (faded paint/remove swirls etc) and what car.

Mainy to remove swirl marks and some scratches.
Is that meguires stuff ok for a novice?
Would prefer a one step product, I don't want to be spendng 30hrs plus just polishing.

Meguire's Microfibre setup is perfect for a novice; can't really get it wrong and it produces excellent results.
I got some pretty bonkers reflections using this system last year, giving a glossy wet look in about two hours:
If you prefer a crisper, sharper shine - here's the same car but done by hand with Autoglym Super Resin Polish, Poorboys Black Hole Glaze, CarLack 68 NSC sealant and topped off with Autoglym HD Wax at a different show, took about 8-10 hours:

The Meguiar's micro fibre kit you can do in about an hour. It's two stage - polish, then wax.
Ideally you should clay first.

Yes I will be claying before any polishing and waxing after polishing.
That looks amazing Rob, did you use the finishing wax afterwards also?
I dont really need any waxI have plenty of that

This is the two-stage process as recommended by Meguiar's. So standard wash, clay, then the polishing compound followed by the matching finishing wax. I'm pretty sure you could put whatever wax you like over the top, but with the DA polisher it makes the whole thing a doddle.

Cool - that'll work. Personally, I'd use the matching finishing wax as they've been designed for use together, and if you don't like the finish, either use the Collinite the next time, or whack a layer of it over the finishing wax.

The liquid goes a long way - you only need a couple of pea-sized drop per panel, and the pads can be washed in the washing machine (don't use fabric softener though, that will ruin them. I use a dedicated microfibre cleaning detergent like Chemical Guys Microfibre Wash but I imagine Persil or whatever works just as well).

Tip: you really want to mask any areas of black rubber or plastic with masking tape, or at the very least remove any product immediately if you stray onto these areas, or you'll get unsightly white marks that are difficult to remove when the product dries.

One point I picked up on in the video was that it should only be applied to original oem paint and not fresh paint but what about if the car had some paint work a couple years ago?

I imagine that's largely arse-covering in case someone tries to use it on a bad respray or something. I've had panels blown over on mine, haven't had any issues with this system.
Dave KG, pretty much the daddy on Detailing World, used the system on a resprayed Vauxhall, so if he's cool with it, it's cool:

If you want the simplest, easiest introduction to DA polishing - it's not going to get much cheaper than that, certainly a lot of shine for your £!
Another tip: You either need some compressed air or a stiff brush (I use an old Aquafresh bendy neck toothbrush) to 'condition' the pads inbetween every panel (minimum, or every section of a panel if you can be arsed; e.g. you might divide the bonnet up into four sections and clean the pad every quarter) and fluff the fibres up.
You can buy an official one, but it's £15 - fuck that!

The Meguires kit looks pretty good and will be considering it, but is there any others that I should be looking at?
Been speaking to the guys at juicy detailing and they recommended dodo juice lime prime to to start out with.
Also came across this, anyone have experience using Auto Finesse?

Only thing putting me off the Meguires one is from what iv been reading on autogeek is the pads need cleaning with air or brush alot.

Mark FFS the Meg's kit is by far best one on the market, I got the Menzerna kit and isn't good at all.
You won't be correcting the car everytime you wash it anyway
