Looking at buying a car over the weekend and never spent over 10k before. Paid cash in the past but 10k seems a lot to have in cash and a ballache to count etc.
Was going to bank transfer but heard you it can get blocked if you just try wiring that amount to a new recipient
How do people normally do this when dealing with private sellers?

I've transferred £28k to a new recipient before (from my bank to a different bank) using the internets - my bank called me up pretty much straight away to check it was legit, then it went through almost immediately.
I imagine if you both bank with the same bank, things might be easier - you could probably nip into a branch and answer any questions on the spot if that's the case.

I always ring the bank first, this way they know to expect a large transfer and saves the embarrassment of being fucked off by the bank.

Ah ok, he's with Lloyds and I'm with FirstDirect (which is part of Lloyds) so might be alright.
Trouble is it will be tomorrow, so no branches will be open. Assume you can still phone them up if you have problems.

just call them prior and tell them the amount and where its going and it will be fine, but for 10K it shouldn't be a problem.

May need to pay a small payment for the faster transfer service.
Think mine was £17.

Went in, said it won't go through because bank holidays aren't working days....so either gotta get cash or bankers draft.
Also HSBC have a BACS limit of 10k per day.
Ballache!

Fd is part of HSBC. Limit is 10k per day.
If you want anything over 6k in cash, you'll be asked a lot of questions

Source Hsbc employee lol.
Your best and cheapest bet is to do 10k transfer rest in cash. Very unlikely they will block, staff can out a marker on the account to make it even less likely, but it's random checks.
To withdraw cash from in branch from FD you need both your cheque book and ID.
Or call first direct first, and tey will send a message to the branch authorising the cash withdrawal

That would probably be a CHAPS payment, which is actually quite a good choice to use if you're over your daily transfer limit. It also can't be reversed e.t.c.

Just take it out your account and hand over cash. Done it a few times now. It is a chance you take but what are the odds of someone mugging you the very day you have that money on you.

There's also the counting out of 10k and if its in 50/100 notes, most people don't deal with them daily. Bank transfer is much better.

Bowled around the highstreet with 17k before, only because the solicitors were fucking around with regards to my house deposit.
When I sold my focus st, the woman paid 14k cash also, so it happens.
I wouldn't pay cash if the seller was of, lets say, a different ''culture''. Just hear to much nowadays...

Took out 7k for a car before. That was fun. The woman didn't want to give me it. My signature didn't match to the one I did when I opened the acount as a 12 year old
Went. Looked at the car and then went to the bank with the guy for him to pay it in which is reasonable on a week day. Atleast they know it's all good!

Ive paid in and took out 10-20k several times and never had any issues or questions asked besides small talk whilst waiting
My bank printed a draft thing out when I bought last car off, that was 18k, no fee as it came from a saving account and not my current account i remember them saying?
Funny thing was he didn't cash it for a while, the mkney was going towards a new watch for himself!!
Few days after that i sold my old beemer for 8k cash to slme Serbians, paid in used 20s. Must have had 20k in their bag. Marked each note and came back fine, i was worried they might be real but stolen notes, so but £100 in paying in machine and a week later i put the rest in lol

Anytime you've paid in over a few k the 'small talk' has been questioning you on where you got the money.
