Wife just called to say she didn't pull the handbrake properly and came out of the store to find our car rolled in to another car.

Apparently it rolled far enough that she thought it was stolen.

Other car is reportedly caved in!!! Which I assume means it has a bit of a dent.

Oh well, time to get some of all that insurance money back.

[/cool story]

Woops. But how can you forget to put the handbrake on?

Tell her to put it in either reverse or first next time.

I don't practice this myself, but it just gives a bit more security if the handbrake fails or is shit.

Looks like minimal damage to the Honda, but just got word that it apparently needs an entire new bumper.

Oh well, at least the £430 excess will get me a facelift bumper.

New bumper? Odd

Also insurance will only replace the bumper for the one that's on, not facelift. Or do they work different over there?

Apparently a lot of the mounting brackets are broken. Just going by what the shop has told me.

I can't see how the insurance company would know or care which year bumper I receive.

Indeed they won't, I guess you've had a word with the shop then to sort you a facelift one?

If its only damage to the bumper on the Adam why are you even bothering with insurance? Save the agro and just stump up the cash to have the bumper painted and skin replaced

Yeah, asked them and they didn't care which I picked.

Probably helps that my wife works there, though...

Both bumpers need replacing, so could see that ending up being costly.

Insurance isn't as horrible over here as I get the impression it is over your way.
I pay the excess and that's that. There's no repercussions or increased premium.

I've had so many cars with crap handbrakes it's just natural for me these days to leave it in gear. In fact I very rarely use the handbrake. I've always worried about this happening!
