I'm in the market for a truck.

I've been needing one for years for towing and chucking my bikes in the back off and general use with shit I do. but finally decided I'm going to get one. I know fuel economy isn't the best but obviously looking for a diesel.

I've got about £8-£9k to spend.

Open to anything really and real life suggestions. My brother has had them all his life through work but they have only ever been a max of 4 years old so don't know what there like when getting a bit older.

Needs to be a double cab. With or with out a back on.

Anyone with real experience of them?

I have experience of the toyotas got one in work as a workhorse great thing can't fault it at all and they hold their value really wrll

My 2006 3.0 hilux was great. Very comfy too. It was only two years old when I got it though

Just listing a few. Out of that list I prefer the look of the navaras, look a lot bigger than the others do

Yep, I love mine. It's new so I'm not sure about long term reliability and I believe older ones weren't as good on fuel, I've averaged 32mpg but I think high 20s are more common on the euro 4 stuff. Tows great, loads of torque, if you're after carrying bikes then you're better off not having a canopy, I tried putting my bike in last week and it was a squeeze, possibly a front wheel off job so if you've got a few then it'll be a mission trying to stack them with a roof in the way. Without the height restriction you may get a few stood up without removing wheels.

The Nav is the most car like of them all and generally come with more toys.

It's motorbikes I would be carrying so Deffinatly not a canopy.

Navara's are nice but have heard about the older ones not being good on fuel.

Beetlegav I do like the 2wd ones lowered.

I had an automatic '56 Navara and I absolutely loved everything about it other than the 16-18mpg I averaged, needless to say I didn't keep it very long

I do seem to remember reading that the 2.5 autos are about 10mpg worse off than the manuals so mid to late 20s may be realistic for a manual. When I was looking I read up on the Navs, L200s, Amaroks, D-Max, Rangers and Hilux and the Nav did have the worst fuel consumption figures.
