We get em sent to us in work all the new rules and regs there cracking down on mots majorly over the last few years it's tightened up a lot

My neighbour has an Octavia and his was playing up and showing the engine light and running like shit. Took it to a VAG dealer who charged £60 to tell him the DPF is blocked and needs replacing at £1700.
Took it to a local specialist who removed it, cleaned it and refitted it for £150.
He had a quote of £350 to have it removed and mapped out.
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

You're probably right and the DPF is a bigger contributer to emissions reduction, however is that not like saying a super eco car like a Bluemotion that has Michelin Energys fitted to maximise fuel consumption and therefore emissions, should have them fitted for tye MOT?

I didn't have a peep out of my mk6 golf DPF the whole time I owned it. Don't know anybody that had had issues before.

They make 10% of all new cars with inbuilt faults to prop up the spares department and workshops. It's luck of the draw really. But you have to question the shear number of cars you see everyday driving about. They aren't all breaking down.

Had 3 of our taxi's require DPF removals this year so far. And 3 or 4 customers cars too

Couldn't tell you to be honest I'm only quoting what I know because it effects us alot in work now it's changed , the difference with a dpf and energy efficient tyres is (in theory) without a dpf your throwing all the shit it's meant to collect and burn off straight out the exhaust I doubt the wrong tyres are going to make the car pump and more toxic gasses than removing a dpf! And even if it did it would nbe no way near on the same level
