Looking to get a e90 320d in the near future, will be an early one 05/06/07. Does anyone have one on here? Looking for common problems. Also what would you class as high mileage for a diesel. Thanks in advance

High mileage is 100k+ on a petrol or a diesel.

Just because it's diesel, doesn't mean it has fancy suspension/bushes that last longer than petrol versions.

I have a 318D on a 60 plate and is coming up for 90k

Never missed a beat

Not sure on the early ones but try and get a 57 plate onwards as they are LCI so have better grills etc but revised engines - from 163 to 177 with better MPG, stop start and better emissions meaning cheaper road tax

Leather is not standard on MSport models and the 18's look better

Tyres last well but the front can wear on the outside due to side walls

I get around 18k out of front and 30k from the rears

Pre LCI did a version called business plus which was MSPort with leather satv nav and BBS alloys - they look good and have alot of kit

The only thing to be wary of is the timing chain issue which is prone on all N47 engines (even today) but more issues with pre 2009 models

Great car

I wouldn't be put off by 100k as the interior wears very well and still feels like a 20k mile car

If it's been well serviced, a 150k car would give you no problems.

Mine did 120k before I got rid and it was starting to show signs of wear and rear mechanically but inside was remarkably good and it was always reliable. Needed some bushes and stuff, nothing major.

Or maybe are just observant because they own the car

Like you telling me differences in models for the z4 I wouldn't have a clue but would value your input if looking to buy one

I just say coupe and roadster, facelift or pre-facelift, or ''new shape''.

Why say lci rather than pre/facelift?

It's a facelift. Lci is just a fancy dealership word that Internet people have taken to.

Not really. I made a joke and you went all serious Steve on me. I do hate the term lci though. I means nothing to normal people, hence the pre facelift or facelift terms.

100k is high mileage and there is not a chance in hell it feels like a 20k car, it doesn't. You've lived with it over 90k miles so havnet noticed it getting worse. Its also a company car that has been serviced properly, which helps a bit but doesn't mitigate.

I have a 320d e91 2005 only thing I would say if it's high mileage make sure you drive it up to speed with no radio on and listen for any grumble from wheel bearings at the front and rear. Mine had 94k on it and both rear bearings went. Fortunately I did them myself which is no easy job but you could be upwards of 300 a side to replace them. Other than that high mileage cars are nothing to worry about if well maintained, I love my estate.

I have an Astra on 165k miles. A BMW will do that no sweat. Aslong as the price reflects the mileage in respect to lower mileage ones it wouldn't put me off at all
