Just a little rant really. Bought a clutch from VW in the past, was nearly £300 and i had to give the old one back on exchange, it came and was a sachs clutch.

Having to buy another clutch and bought the same sachs clutch from eurocarparts for £100 and i don't have to give them my old one.

I assume they are the same, managed to buy clutch, clutch slave cylinder, 3 oil filters, a few sump washers and two rears springs (also sachs) for less than a clutch from VW.

Am using the dealers less and less these days, very overrated imo, i think now i've had the car so long i've used genuine and non genuine parts and worn them both out so i get a good comparison, whereas in the past i just listened to others and always bought genuine.

If you can find the manufacturers who make for dealers elsewhere then yeah great, but I have had some bad experiences with cheap random 3rd party parts, especially load bearing stuff, id avoid things like bushes, bearings etc if its either not dealer or supplied by those who supply the dealer

Started looking at black diamond or Helix uprated clutches as they are cheaper or similar price to a standard dealer one.

I just bought a pair of track rod ends for the 205, cheapest on eBay.

They arrived and was shocked to find they were rebuild-able. Had grease nipples and looked like they could be stripped down and serviceable.

Think the clutches we fit cost something like £38 each. Massive profit margins on those. They are sachs also.

I hardly buy anything from dealers these days. I tend to buy from Euro Car parts and eBay.

Lots of genuine sellers on eBay but you also have the dodgy fuckers who just want to make money and don't give a shit. A bit of research is always required.

I purchased my E36 M3 shocks from ECP for a total of about £350.

Was something mad like £950 from BMW. Same part, minus the stamp and logo on the receipt.

Inlet manifold and gasket replaced on mine. Genuine Pierburg manifold and gasket bought for £172 next day delivery online. Vauxhall wanted £380 odd.

Depends on the parts, wouldn't go buying a BMW oil filter for £10 when they are made by mahle and a mahle filter from express costs £3. Clutches are the same. I'll only ever fit LUK or on the odd time sach clutches.

But things like sensors and bits like that. Always dealership.
Rack ends are one I only use dealership parts for aswell

There's a fair few parts to be honest. Some prices are stupid and with just a bit of research you can find the same part for half the price.
Others are that price for a reason

I buy more from Renault than anywhere else.

Most bits from Renault are similar prices to pattern parts, yeah theres some stupid stuff like track rod inners and outers which I only buy pattern as genuine are silly expensive.

But oil filter is less than a fiver and is the only one with a one way valve, oil is cheap for good stuff, cambelt kits are £5/10 more than a just gates branded one.

Ive even bought genuine clutches because they've been very similar prices.

It really does depend, and I often get prices on both pattern and genuine and decide what I'd rather fit, and then what my customer would prefer, with Renaultsport's, people generally want genuine.

Most aftermarket suppliers don't actually list Renaulsport stuff anyway, I struggle to get bits for me own car, it's a pain in the arse.

You do sometimes do OK, I've known of things flying out the door on Ebay for loads of money after being bought from the dealer for less.

Most of the time I wouldn't end up using them but I normally try just to see what is what.
