Not a cargo plane but the Comet had engines in the wing, as does the Nimrod which was based on the Comet.

Nope, neither of them. Similar to the nimrod though but less 'army'

Only ones off the top of my head are the Valiant, Victor, Vulcan, Nimrod, Comet and Buccaneer.

I don't know of any transport aircraft with engines in the wing roots. is it military transport. What about a VC10?

is it something you have seen flying recently or?
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

Wasn't that.
Was at East Midlands airport on the 12th of July.
Wasn't military, definitely cargo. 4 engines, big old bastard, very shallow take of climb angle.

An-124 operates out of East Midlands, 4 engines but they aren't mounted in the wing.

Why does it look like the flaps are down, but no gear down?

Because on takeoff the curvature of the wing is maintained to maximise lift. The gear is retracted to reduce drag
