Bottom end with pistons, can use the con rods and crank from one of the other engines.

Gone with a 2.8 instead of a 2.9 Hard to find a new 2.9 and my old pistons weren't great so I'd rather have new.

Might as well buy new crank and rods too no? Or at least get yours cleaned up and balanced

Mine looked pretty good really. Going to have pistons, rods, crank, flywheel etc balanced.

2.9 pistons looked a bit tatty so decided against using them, otherwise i would of bought any old 2.8 block and had it bored out to suit my pistons.

Why not buy new 2.9 pistons?

Is that brand new or reconditioned?

It's brand new. One of the last few.

I think it's gong to work out cheaper in the long run. Not mucking about with turbos or chargers. Just want it to last.

About £440. Got a slight deal as I also bought hydraulic lifters off them. Is a place on ebay selling vag parts. Bought quite a few parts off them now.

They have a brand new 2.8 24v complete engine on there. Tempting but decided to stay 12v.

That's pretty cheap in fairness, will work well with the new head, you just need a new old stock inlet manifold now

My corrado inlet will be fine imo. Also going with the schimmel cams. Corrado had enlarged throttle body too so won't notice the difference from 2.8 to 2.9. Doubt there's much in it anyway really. More of a marketing ploy to say its a bigger engine than the golf.

Surely it will have more torque though, which i would think would make a slight noticeable difference.

It would be so slight it wouldn't really make much difference.
With the extra bits it'll be more power than a standard corrado vr6. Certainly better as will be getting bits balanced and then a remap once it's all fitted and run in.

Got conrods ready to go in new engine. Look ok to me. Pistons are a bit ropey though.

Got this engine built up now, i have got a project thread on corrado forum but here's just a couple of pics.

Had the block built up by Stealth racing, new block, new pistons, used old crank and rods.

New head from Vege

Fitted ARP studs and new gasket

Put head on

New timing gear

Covers on

Then just fitting ancillaries

Stick a bit glass on top and use it as a coffee table just through the winter. How many people do you know who has used their engine as a coffee table at one point? No one. Be the first.

I remember when you used to get all sorts of interesting engine layouts like this.
