Im torn on this one.
Prison for "offending" someone is a tad harsh, as is humans being "offended" by the natural form.
That said, prison for lack of respect and arrogant disregard for causing friction and needless upset is maybe warranted?

Indecent exposure over here, although unlikely, can carry a 24 month prison sentence, more likely a fine and possibly community service. Why they would expect it to be any different over there, I don't know, especially doing it on what is considered a sacred mountain.

My point was in torn on if I think the fuss is deserved, the law is the law (no matter how daft/outdated) I just can't make my mind up on it. I'm half for them deserving to be strapped up, half for thinking its a fuss over very little. Conflicted. Not debating the law.

tbf, places like Thailand and Malaysia are backwords when it comes to the law. The two brits that were murdered in Thailand - judge has had to get the evidence independently verified as the local government were quick to blame it on Burmese and pin it on two Burmese men.
Indonesia executed 9 drug smugglers - now i have no respect for drug dealer etc, but the people who smuggle are not in it for the money most of the time, they are doing it under fear (no amount of money would try and get 30kg of cocaine through an airport on yourself)

It all about time and place though. Yes, empty forest with your mates is probably fine assuming none of them are sad enough to report you for it and follow it through. In front of a local tour guide who probably shares the beliefs about it being sacred ground and would potentially be concerned about what repercussions it could have on him if he didn't carry out his believed duty of reporting it, then that's more likely to see you in trouble.
Or in short, they asked for it.
