Apparently a common fault. RCL sometimes unlocks, sometimes locks when it wants.

Tried syncing the keys to no avail.

If I bought a second hand GM5 module would it be a straight swap or is it a recoding jobby?

Also, is there another easy/cheap fix to this problem?

No I haven't Jambo as there isn't any lights on.

Will grab a reader over the weekend.

Just pulled up outside my house and it died. Tried starting it with nothing, like the immobiliser was stopping it. Waited 20 seconds and it fired up first time?

I have this exact problem and haven't managed to sort it yet. '02 M3. Doesn't always unlock off the remote, and sometimes can't use the central locking button to unlock the doors.

No codes that I can find for it.

Welcome to BMW's Chinese electronics..

All of my BMW's have had dash-boards like Christmas trees and stuff only worked when it felt like it.

Not had chance to read the codes yet but it has died on me twice when coming to a stop. key off and on has no effect unless you take the key out and back in.

That seems a bit immobiliser-ish.

Some one I know had a central locking fault, 2002 e46 saloon, apparently there is a control unit behind the glove box that fails. He had it repaired for less than £50 by a bloke who does that sort of thing. Iirc the bloke was in thatcham area, may be worth a Google
