Here goes chaps.
Mum is whinging that her friends have the ability to watch "catch-up" tv shows on their living room tv's (coronation street and that total SHIT no doubt)
At the moment my parents have a bog non-smart standard LG 32" tv in their living room with an archaic Sky+ box. They have the lowest of the low Sky package due to being so tight (and keep moaning when it goes up by a couple of quid )
I've tried telling her to record stuff in the planner, but no.
I've also told her that she can use their computer to watch stuff like iPlayer, ITVPlayer, demand5 and 4oD, but she keeps telling me that she wants to watch it in the living room.
I've told her countless times that i'll happily build them a media centre for this sort of stuff, but they're PROPER Yorkshire tight when it comes to spending money...so they wont.
I told her that i'd look into alternatives for her, so have any of you lot got any ideas?

Had the same issue, 30 quid Amazon fire tv stick, side load Kodi on, all the films and TV the old lady can shake a stick at and the old man gets all the sky sports for free

Buy a new TV?
Or... Apple TV, Google Chromecast or Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter.
My mum actually bought a PlayStation because then she added the ability to play Blu-rays as well (she wasn't really that bothered, but all the films I buy are Blu-ray and she got fed up with me not being able to lend them to her)

I've got the base/cheapest Sky package and I get catchup. You do need a compatible box though.

Could be worth her phoning up sky and seeing if they can send her a new.box then, threaten to quit etc... They should be able to sort her out

Roku / NowTV / Amazon thingy.
Basically stream "catch-up TV" over t'interweb. Essentially turns TV into Smart TV which all her mates have.
