Could be an air leak. Apparently. And one of the water hoses going in to the side of the engine is rather pink

Yup. Fucking runs like a bag of shite since this cold and wet weather. Stuttery as anything when driving along first thing.

Ever thought the money you've wasted misdiagnosing the coil pack could've been better spent getting the a garage to fix the actual problem?

Well Internet myths seemed to point to it. Mines right age/milage. And there's no EML so didn't want to pay for hours of labour for them to say we may have fixed it. And it's intermittent, so if they don't experience it probably be waste of time. Seems fairly constant now unless it was dodgy cheap ECP part.

Soon enough it'll be going in.

Going to make sure this weekend the spark plug wells aren't full of water as even though I have the updated washer jets I opened the bonnet when it was properly pissing it down and there was still water on the air box running into the rocker cover.

The way them engines are sat the water comes in from the scuttle panel. Happens on the mk7's too. But the airbox on them is to the side of the engine so the water goes straight into where the leads sit on the rocker cover.
