Should be saving for a house deposit but fuck it, my minds wandering

Looking at options for a track car again, maybe this year but we'll see

had a go in Ians Puma, so thought about getting one of these for cheap as chips (going for £300-£600) in a condition i would think be good enough to rag around a track for a bit

but then thought about Cat D cars, seen a few Fiesta ST's knocking about below the £900 mark (may need a bumper etc) driven a few when i was younger and really liked them

main question is, anyone know the procedure about being able to get a Cat-D back on the road paperwork wise

is it a case of take it away from the salvage auction, put a bonnet/bumper on and start driving it or cant remember if you have to go take for a certain test etc

So basically if i bought a car from a salvage auction, as long as i insured it, i could technically drive it home?

No VIC test now, was abolished a bit back.

Need to MOT and apply for a logbook.

Cat C will be free because they destroyed the book in order to write on the first page.

Cat D you may get one, or it will cost the standard rate on the V62 form, 25 quid I think.

Would need taxing or trade plates before you could drive it.

Also bear in mind the descriptions are notoriously poor and you could get one described as running that's only just doing so while spluttering and smoking, particularly if its minor damage stolen recovered.

A lot of great, cheap cars there with very little to sort them but a few that reveal their true damage when you get them home, tread carefully.

Won't need MOT if it already has MOT on it. Just got a 10 plate fiesta cat d, applied for logbook at taxed it. As it's still mot'd until June.

Depending which auction site it's on, any dealings I've had with copart they must be trailered away. And they charge you for loading them.

Although saying that none have ever really been drivable anyway

Heard conflicting things about the validity of the MOT after its been categorised.

Suppose if it taxes OK it must have one.

Also Copart will allow you to drive them out. In fact most times I'm there there's normally some joker doing the bare minimum to get it out the gate. Surprised the rozzers aren't hotter on that as rarely on trade plates so none will be taxed.

Tax is still valid until the date of sale or transfer, so until you fill in your V5C it's still taxed. MOT on a D is also still valid until it expires.

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

if i do get one it will be minor damage, ie needs a bonnet/wing/bumper etc

just a thought for the next couple of months, as im getting the track day itch again

saying that i have numerous weddings/birthdays/stags etc to go on this year so we'll see

Be careful looking at Fiesta ST's needing bumpers. Even second hand they usually do over £300. And the front ones are far too easy to steal!

No VIC check for a CAT D.. You don't have to do anything, if you want to be anal just get a fresh MOT.

Hadnt realised they changed the rules so much, making these eBay cat D's look even more promising now.

Not at all, standard bumper would fit the same.
