Been looking at buying a Mini Cooper S could do with some help pointing in the right direction with what to look out for.

Going view a cooper s checkmate soon.

2006 Checkmate
£4790

FSH, exhaust upgrade, clutch, flywheel and timing chain replaced.

Update: Bit meh had test drive this afternoon very fun little car pops and bangs, but it's bit rough around the edges so carrying on my search.

Rear lights look odd. I'd never buy a shitely modified car. And especially turbo/supercharger. Just makes me think it has been ragged to shit.

Worst thing about these cars is the gearbox. If it's stiff it'll probably require new oil and linkage cables... haven't done mine yet, but even after they're not meant to be great lol.

Clutch is £1,000.

Just a general thing but check MOT history as the first one I looked at was knackered! Got a much better one in the end, not a single thing has gone wrong yet.

There's a 2007 Cooper S (R56) with JCW kit on MiniTorque for £4,000 atm.

8 previous owners
Small bits that let it down, stuff like broken vanity mirrors both sides, arm rest plastic cubby doesn't close broken clip somewhere, headlights scratched to fuck, rough patches of paint work around the car. Front fog light hiding bits of rust dunno if i'm be over critical??

On plus side been to 1320 for front polybush's
X4 new toyo proxes

First one i drove so ideally like to have look around bit more see better ones or worse ones time will tell.

Definitely worth shopping around. Mine has hit just over 100k but I only paid £2,800 for a 55 plate. It's absolutely mint with FSH and good MOT history, only 2 previous owners.

Clutch and fly isn't a grand
Gearbox's are fine in the facelifts.
Just get one with the factory LSD In it and change the fluid to mt94.
There pretty sweet little cars to be fair.
Can pick them up cheap enough now to have some fun with.
Exhaust. pulley. Intercooler. Intake. All you need and there about 210ho ish. Bargain in my eyes.

Ticks most the boxes.... didn't realise the rear seats would be an issue...i'm 5'10 with the seat positioned how i want theres no chance of someone sitting behind me which is a fucker. Might be going view a "clubman s" because of said issue. Clubman's come with a super charger? Presuming they would or they the newer stuff and have a turbo or perhaps just a boggo 1.6 with nice trim and bigger alloys?

I saw a tail gate literally fall off a mini. So worth checking those hinges

Mine's 55 and it's shite! Search for stiff gearbox on MiniTorque and you'll find plenty of threads about it, and 'fixes' which make them better... but still not great. Most common is reverse, with people saying you need two hands on the gear knob to get it into gear; mine's pretty rough but not quite that bad.

Second gear is the worst for me. I'm going to get the oil changed and new linkage cables on next MOT and see if they make an improvement!
