"I have been contemplating the idea of purchasing a hypercar as a long term investment seeing that a Mclaren F1 in good condition with low mileage can fetch up to 12 million today.
How does one go about making such a decision? I'm guessing the car should be a limited run model and very expensive to buy but even that doesn't guarantee a high future value correct?
I'm talking about Chiron or Regera here so a substantial investment either way.
What are your opinions on this matter? Is it wise or is it a gamble?"

I see the problem here being what's made these days in terms of performance hyper cars. Back in the days of mclaren F1 for instance, there wasn't really anything in its league as such, so would always become a classic. Ferraris of old in my opinion are always going to be classics but nowaday they have 5 different models of the same car with something different like Carbon stripped out models, so dilutes the actual appeal of the models. If you look at mclaren currently, they have the P1 which potentially could be a classic but they're bound to bring out one with more HP or an upgraded hybrid drive system, which I think will dilute the ability to make it a good investment. Look at Bugatti and the very on, would you say they're appreciating classics? How many tweaked models of the same base car have there been? Which would you say is the most desirable?

Start smaller, then it might make sense.
993, e30 m3 etc are within reach and will appreciate in value.
Hyper cars.... Totally out of reach for the average guy.

E39 M5, last of the manual M5's could get them for 5/6k last year and now they have doubled in price with 140k miles on the engine. They will keep going up if you want a small investment into a car.
