Got one of those tiny humans being delivered in October so guess we should chop in the KA for a 5 door, much as I hate them.
Probably got about £2,000-3,000 to spend... but the cheaper the better. Missus is quite fussy on mileage, whereas I couldn't give a damn; reckon I could push it to 80k max.
In the poll are the possibilities I came across on ye olde AutoTrader. Would <3 to hear advice on any people have tried out

Probably better to look towards a decent saloon car rather than a hatch back?

Ignore all, get a decent German estate.
My mate bought a nice 1.8t audi a4 avant for peanuts. 2004 model. Looks like it would do the job fine and at least has some form of performance.

Saloons dont have as big an opening boot as a hatchback so can be harder getting pram etc in.

Ive just bought a 2006 Mazda 3 Sport. 2.0 petrol 150bhp same engine as in the Fiesta ST. Drives nice and looks ok with the sport kit etc.
Ben makes a valid point though. Id personally want an S-Line though which arent peanuts for a decent 1 that dosnt have high miles like Nics Golf R.

His one has over 100k but looks great and seems quite reliable. Think he paid £2500 for it. It's an s-line also.

Problem is the missus doesn't want anything too big (for her)
I test drove a Golf GTI Mk5 last year and she said that was too big for her... not sure she'd go for a saloon.
I reckon the Megane would probably be too big tbh. Kind of fancying a vRS today, my mates had one for over 10 years, bought it brand new! He loves it (obviously)

vRS is an awesome car, loved mine, but it was always wanting for something.
Ate brakes.
Ate tyres.
Ate bushes.
Ate clutches (although that could be due to the remap).
Ate drop links - I was replacing them every 2 months.
But would happily see 60mpg and gives amazing performance. Through the gears it's hard to beat.

Octavia vRS is a good shout too, nearly test drove one a few years back but it was sold by the time I got there. Also think the Mondeo ST 220s look good if I was going that route...

Mine had full service history, 100,000 miles and was £3,000 around 4 years ago.
