Cam instead of injectors!?! Do you know what a cam is? Your car already has a camSHAFT in it, 2 infact. Caming as you call it is replacing the cam shaft with a higher performing one, which opens the valves more allowing more air to enter, they arent too effective without an aftermarket ECU/chip as fueling has to be increased as well.

LOL i serverly dout he does know what hes on about
yer as above, u can get 2 main differences in aftermarket cams, 1) u can get ur cams re-profiled, meaning their will be a shorter duration in lift, resulting in more low down tourqe
or u can buy new cams, which have a larger profile, meaning a increase in lift duration, giving u more power higher up the rev range, but u will lose some low down power

Carbs give more fuel and offer better air flow over standard.
But they are not as good as aftermarket injection.

Why do replacement cams cost sooooo much?
Is it because they are only made on a small scale and not mass produced very much?

they aint exactly the easiest things to fabricate!! they have to be made to a very high level of detail
cheapest way is to have an existing cam-reprofiled

I bet new aftermarket cams are cheaper than new GM cams. Similar prices at least...
There should also a fair bit of development into each cam.....
