Help Needed please
Just build a Pc and have tried to install O/S
Got warning that Windows cannot detect Hard Drive, but the Computer Bios says that its there.
Anyway I swappe dthe hard rive for mine and was able to install windows on the hard drive via my PC, but my Hardrive could not be seen on the new PC.
I then swapped them back again and when the computer was booted it it failed saying that the no Boot disk detected
Is this a faulty Motherboard or am I missing something simple?!?!?!
Any ideas folks??

How are you trying to install the OS? With a bootable CD, or with a boot-floppy?
The most common problem with "non-visable" hard-drives is trying to use a non-NT boot-floppy when the hard-drive is partitioned in NTFS...
But if you've already installed the OS on another machine, then ported the drive across to yours, then I'd go with the above......that it's a jumper-setting problem.

OK stupid question time:
have you partitioned it? AFAIR win98 cant do it within the install program and you have to do it with fdisk?
can do it within win2k install
dunno about XP, probably.

I'd ditto that - boot from a floppy, run fdisk and set the partition as the active one

Try another IDE cable mate, could just be that. If that doesn't work then try resetting the bios. If that doesn't work then i'd get someone in a shop to have a go - as they will be able to test the motherboard etc. I've built a few PCs and never come across that problem before. Sorry i can't really help mate.

Have you got the IDE cable in the first IDE slot? I think the first one is 0, you will be able to work this out anyways.

If that was the case why does my harddrive not when I put it in the other PC
