a friend of mine (a Rover/MG mechanic) took me out for a rag in his new toy last night, and it was v impressive for a turbo conversion on a.......erm.... Rover!!

It just wouldnt put the power down in the wet even with 17 x 7.5 rims on and my mate going easy on with the throttle, it just spun through most of 3rd gear!

Its been reliable for over three years now apparently (had all its services done by him in the past and so on...) and he tells me its the Honda 1.6 16v SOHC engine that rover used???? This true?

It has quite a spec list too, but off the top of my head, its running low compression pistons, a 5th injector, ported & polished head... etc.

RR'd 170bhp @ the wheels with a shedfull of tourque to match!

the things a beastie!!

the only things i would critisize this car one would be the fact that it handled like a dog with three legs, and the brakes were just a total joke for a car of this spec!

Still, all adds to the drive eh

0.7 bar boost

small turbo, judging by the way it spooled up fairly sharpish

BIG front mounted intercooler

Vibs, no graph, might be able to get it tonight, if so I will post it 2morrow.

Tom, insuance on the 220 turbo would cripple him at 18 mate, at least with the 216 conversion its still esentially a modified 1.6 16v

Erm, no. The only K series engines used in Hondas are the new generation ivtec engines, and the only thing they have in common with rover is the K in the engine code.

D series Honda sohc engines may well have been used in rovers... they also used a twincam Honda 1.6 engine, similar to the one found in mk2 CRXs & Concertos.

If it's a single cam Honda engine, I'm guessing he used the greddy kit?

whats the esi? 1.6?

Ive just been looking at the "bolt on" turbo packages from GReddy and they look a fairly safe option to turn a civic into a rocket without too much $$$!

interesting.......
