Hi there,
First off , cracking site and forum - plenty of wicked looking motors on here
As the topic title says , I'm looking for help/advice on my first car (which should be a corsa!)
I'm 16 at the moment , 17 in april 2004 and at the moment have been checking out insurance quotes online . The best quote I have had is £1500 , on a 1.2 Corsa Merit - that was with direct line .
I know that young drivers are quoted highly because of the risk they are on the roads - but £1500 is taking the piss innit ?
Do any of you know some good insurance companys specifically for drivers at 17?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
G

Unfortunatly, young drivers are high risk and generally drive too fast, espeically for their experience. Hence why the insurance is so high.
Give it a few years and it'll come right down.

am 17 m8, gettin insurance was a right bugger. i ended up goin wiv NFU (before u ask i am not a farmer)
These are pretty good, they are allowing me to mod my car aslong as i dont touch the engine and my fee will not rise (aslong as the value doesnt exceed 30 grand lol <===== asif it would)
They also have a gd reputation 4 payin up.
Another point, they are allowing me to do a conversion when i have a years ncb.
Tesco were 2nd best tho m8

Tesco's are great when it comes to insuring new drivers. They are harsh when it comes to modifying though, keep the 1.2 for a couple of years, build up NCB and look after your car. Then you can move insurance companies and get a nicer car

i was 17 in july and got me insurance on a 1.2 merit from norwich union direct. I got 3rd party fire and theft for £1120 for the 12 months. Doesnt seem too bad compared to your quote and if I dont claim in the 1st year they sed it shud come down summit like 30- 40%!!
Goto norwich union website and u can get an online quote there.
Hope this helps ya

Hi,
Unlucky about the scotter mate - you cursed yourself!!!
Thanks for all the ideas I'm having a look now
What sort of area do you all live in . I live in an area which is really good for a low crime level - yet I still get these massive quotes !?

4 years ago when i first got my corsa when i was 17 is was going to cost 1700 quid fully comp to insure it, now im 20, still dont have any noclaims and i pay 740 a year fully comp, all mods listed.
you wont get anything much cheaper than that im afraid.

try norwich union cos they are high to start but with pass plus it knocks 52% off !!! which has bought mine down 2 £1289 fully comp with alloys declared on a 98 corsa 1.0. Pass plus is well worth it though in my opinion
